Using the Library Reading List in Canvas

Tips for UTSA faculty on using Library Reading List to manage course readings

Current Courses

Request New Items Not Owned by UTSA  

To request a new item not owned by UTSA in any format for your course: 

  1. Login to Canvas > select  a course > select Library Reading List tool on the left menu as described on Access & Create Reading Lists.
  2. Create a new list or open an existing list. Select one of the options:

Use Add New Item > Manual Entry. Fill out the form as prompted and click Add.

Use Add Using DOI or ISBN, if you are requesting books or articles with known ISBN or DOI.  This option prepopulates the request form so you don't have to fill it out manually. Click Add.

Select Type and enter Title

Multiple types of materials may be requested including articles, books, chapters, e-books, streaming media, scores, and much more.

Fill out Item Details

If you provide an ISBN, it will populate the form.

Your request has been added 

Click on "My list is ready" to send the list to the library.  It will be processed by the library staff.

To edit or add notes to your request, click on ... on the right > Edit.

Turnaround time varies from one day to several weeks. To ensure items will be available to your class on time, submit requests as early as possible. Once your request has been received, the Libraries team will explore access options and acquire if available, communicating with you throughout the process. Questions? Email libreserve@utsa.edu

Future Courses

If your course is not yet loaded in Canvas, please contact libreserve@utsa.edu to request new materials not owned by the Libraries. Streaming media and some books / e-books require additional processing time and may take several weeks to get. Please submit your request as far in advance as possible to ensure timely access for your students. The Libraries team will communicate with you throughout the process.
