Using the Library Reading List in Canvas

Tips for UTSA faculty on using Library Reading List to manage course readings

Request Chapter Scans for Course Reserves

Faculty may place a request to scan a limited number of individual book chapters from a physical book to use as course reserve  materials. Requests for book chapter scans are initiated by the faculty member via the Library Reading List Tool in Canvas.

To comply with U.S. copyright law and fair use, UTSA Libraries will scan up to a maximum of 3 chapters per book and upload the files in the Library Reading List in your Canvas course. If you have any questions about copyright compliance, please contact our Scholarly Communications librarian Emily.Hayward@utsa.edu.

The scans will be searchable in PDF format, and each file will contain one chapter. Library staff will add a disclaimer notice at the beginning of each chapter.

Notice: This file has been provided by UTSA Libraries for use through Digital Reserves. Please do not share, copy, print, or distribute this file. These restrictions are in place based on copyright laws.

There are two options for requesting single chapter scans:

  1. Search the Library - for items owned by the UTSA Libraries.
  2. Manual Entry - for the titles not owned by the the UTSA Libraries and need to be ordered.
