Professional Development Grants

Professional Development Grants for Classified Staff

The Vice Provost and the Professional Development Governance Team are pleased to provide funding for classified staff to engage in professional development activities. Categories for which funds may be used include, but are not limited to, conferences, webinars, training courses and associated travel. Tuition for degree-seeking programs is excluded and not eligible for grant consideration.

For the 2024-2025 cycle, grants will be awarded to staff members to cover the cost of participation in eligible professional development activities. Grant applications will be reviewed by the Professional Development Governance Team in conjunction with the Vice Provost.

Application deadlines will be announced through all-staff email communication.

If awarded professional development grants total less than $6000 in the current fiscal year, remaining monies may be used to award additional grants with the approval of the Vice Provost.

Eligibility:

Classified staff with no other professional development support funds for the current fiscal year.

Staff member must have completed the 6-month probationary period.

All applications are considered, but priority is given to staff members who have not already received a library-funded grant during the current fiscal year.

Application Process:

Applicants must submit the Professional Development Grant Application.

Allowable Grant Expenditures:

Allowable grant expenditures must be in accordance with university guidelines for continuing education and professional development as outlined in HOP 4.08, Employee Training and Education. Allowable grant expenditures include:

Conference/seminar registration fees

Webinar registration fees

Workshops or training courses upon approval of the Vice Provost

Travel costs associated with conference attendance

Awarding the Grant:

The Professional Development Governance Team will notify individual grant recipients and their supervisors that the grant has been awarded.

Grant recipients will be notified within three weeks of application deadline. An email announcement to all-staff will follow.

Grant funds will be directly applied to pay costs associated with conference, seminar or webinar attendance.

Associated travel costs such as airfare and lodging are also paid directly.

Grant amounts may depend on the selected activity up to the $2000 total.

Payment for professional development activities are made in accordance with university policy. Travel arrangements will be made through the Office of the Dean per university guidelines.

Compensable Travel Time

If the proposed professional development activity requires travel, eligible employees will receive compensable travel time in accordance with university policy. All compensable travel time will be accrued for future use.

Follow-up Activity:

Upon completion of the professional development activity, grant recipients may be asked to review or share their experience.

Grant recipients may be interviewed for library wide communications regarding the professional development grant program.
