RefWorks

RefWorks

RefWorks was the internal tool in our previous discovery system that allowed you to save references you had marked. As of September 10, 2018, access to this version of RefWorks* will no longer be available. The good news is that you can export your references to tools like EndNote or Zotero. Just follow the instructions below.

If you have any questions about exporting your data, we’d be happy to assist you! Contact us on chat, consult the librarian in your subject area, or come by the JPL Information Desk.

*If you are using the full bibliographic management system version of RefWorks, which is similar to EndNote or Zotero, you should not be affected.

Export Your Data From RefWorks

Log into RefWorks and then click on the Folder icon.

In the left-hand column, click on ALL DOCUMENTS. Then, click on SELECT ALL.

In the menu across the top, click on SHARE. Then, click on EXPORT REFERENCES.

In the FROM section, choose: All references in ‘All Documents.’ Under FORMAT, choose ‘RIS Format.’ Then, click on EXPORT.

Save the RIS File so that you can easily locate it later to import into another bibliographic management system. The file name will be “export.ris”.

Import Your Data

To import your RIS file into a bibliographic management system such as EndNote or Zotero, simply click on ‘OPEN WITH’ and select the program you want to use (e.g. EndNote).

You can also open EndNote and Zotero first, then select IMPORT, and then open the file there.

For more information on EndNote and Zotero, please see our online guides:

If you’re not sure which bibliographic management system to use, or if you would like information about other systems, please consult the librarian for your subject area, or contact us on chat or visit us at the JPL Information Desk.

‘My Favorites’ is an internal tool in our new discovery system that allows you to save your search history and items you have marked. You can easily create an account that will save new items, but there is no way to import your RIS file of older data into the system.
