Enter a Stock Symbol

For search equities in NASDAQ: you need to type @ before a stock symbol

  • E.g.: @msft is for Microsoft Corp.

For search equities in NYSE: typing U: before a stock symbol 

  • E.g.: U:wmt is for Wal-Mart Stores.

Equities Search

  1. In the "Enter Series" pull-down menu, type either @msft  or U:wmt

  2. Select a "Time Period" by clicking on one of radio buttons of interest

  3. Clcik on the "Run Now!" button.

Bonds and Convertibles

Complete the following step in order to find a bond of interest

  1. Select "Bonds & Convertible" - which is under "Data Category" on the left top corner of the program
  2. Click the button "Find Series" (in orange color)
  3. Get a new window called "Datastream Navigator", and click on "Criteria Search" in that window
  4. Choose some search box depending on what data you need;
    • e.g.: typing "Ford" into the "name" box, and selecting "Starts with" from the pull-down menu
  5. Click on the Button "Search" (on the right of the window) to get a list of results for all the bonds starting with "Ford"
  6. Double click the item of your interest to select it
  7. Click "Run Now!" button  

 

I/B/E/S Estimates

Example: Find the I/B/E/S estimate for a company, for example Google, complete the following steps:

  1. Select "Equities" under "Data Category" on the left top corner of the program
  2. Type @Goog into the "Enter series" box
  3. Clcik the sign "+" (before "Single Series - Overview" under "Analysis" which is on the left side bar of your screen
  4. Select one type of I/B/E/S
  5. Click "Run Now!" button  

 

Data Navigator - Search Tool in DS

You can use the "Data Series / Datatype Navigator " in Datastream program to find the series or datatype you need.  You can see these examples in three slides in the following PowerPoint file.

Search in Unit Trusts

You can use the "Data Navigator" to look up "Unit Trusts" (mutual funds) in the United States and to generate / download a result list of your search into Excel file.  Below is an example of this kind of search result in Excel file.
